Types of Eating Disorders
Eating disorders can occur at any age for
both men and women. Family structure,
major life stresses, losses, and social
pressures to be thin can influence eating
behaviors.
Anorexia
Self starvation through unhealthy ways of
loosing weight. You may fear gaining weight
and diet and exercise excessively. You may
think you are overweight even though you
are normal or underweight for your height.
Bulimia
A pattern of binge eating and purging. You
may eat large amounts of food in a short period
of time and try getting rid of the food or
calories by vomiting, using laxatives, and/or
compulsively exercising.
Compulsive Eating
Feeling out of control with your eating.
You may have tried many diets, lost and
regained the weight back. You may eat for
reasons other than physical hunger, such as
feelings of hurt, anger, boredom, or stress.
